My Broadway Review System:

Plays take me away from reality, so my measurement system for reviews is for how many levels of reality do I escape. People go to plays to escape the reality of their lives. Here are my levels on how I rate a play:

1 Escape: It will help you forget a weird haircut :)
2 Escapes: It will help you forget that you don’t have hot water :)
3 Escapes: It will help you forget you missed your subway stop :)
4 Escapes: It will help you forget that your dog pooped on the rug :)
5 Escapes: It will help you forget your break up with your girlfriend :)
6 Escapes: It will help you forget work :)
7 Escapes: It will help you forget your body weight :)
8 Escapes: It will help you forget your family problems :)
9 Escapes: It will help you forget the last play you saw was really awful :)
10 Escapes: It will help you forget that you will die someday :)

A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder

Thomas Ellenson

A Gentlemen's Guide to Love & Murder is amazing and so funny! I completely loved it!! By the way I met the stars of it. They are awesomely talented & super nice!

Acting
Jefferson Mays plays all of the characters of the D'Ysquith Family in this show. He is really believable as the many characters because he changes his voice and costumes quickly. It is fantastic because I had never seen an actor who played so many characters in only one play.

Bryce Pinkham plays Monty Navarro in this show. He is really believable as Monty Navarro because he uses a classic English accent when he is talking and singing. He is hilarious because he determined to kill all of the D’Ysquith family. His singing is amazing. My favorite scenes are when he is singing “I’ve Decided to Marry You” and “Poison in My Pocket”. He is extremely talented in this show.

Design
The Walter Kerr theater is really small but it has one small set in the middle of the stage and two desks on each of the sides. The small set was created with some video projection . The video projection means they can put pictures of places like a church, a house porch, or a dining room, and can put digital creatures like bees in the back of the small stage.

My Opinion
I give this play 10 Escapes for my review. It’s playing at the Walter Kerr Theatre. It won THE TONY AWARD FOR BEST MUSICAL.
